If I need to control gain from the basement (broadcast console) I can use the computer control of the x32 and adjust the gain that way. Though doing it the way you said where FOH has gain control is fine with me.

I did see a video on how to connect 2 s16s to 2 consoles at one time. The rack and 2nd stage box arrived a few days ago though my son has been sick this week so I have not been able to go down there yet and configure it yet. This one next to the console for the wireless system.

I though it was 32 plus the 6 aux channels. Then port AES50A connects to S16 stage box then stage box AES50B to the next stage box AES50A. You can run two cables from each AES50 A port on the stageboxes to one mixer and two more cables to from the AES50 B ports to the other mixer. Only one console will be able to control the gains, though.
